The Major Taylor Cycling Club South Carolina (“MTCCSC”) Club has adopted this Code of Conduct to promote safe cycling, courtesy and good sportsmanship. For the privilege of participating in Club activities, each member shall affirm acceptance of this Code. Failure to maintain this Code of Conduct may result in suspension or revocation of membership.
Practice good sportsmanship and conduct myself in a professional manner at all cycling and non-cycling events where I am representing MTCCSC
“Representing the club” is defined as any time you are wearing the team jersey or at any event where you are registered as an MTCCSC member, regardless of whether you are wearing the team jersey or not, while you are at the event or on the course.
· Unacceptable behavior includes but not limited to:
· Physical abuse to any person while riding or at an event.
· Use of foul language toward any person while riding or at an event.
· Making obscene gestures directed to any persons while riding or at an event.
· Malicious actions on the bike toward any persons.
· Wear your team clothing proudly.
As a valuable advertising “vehicle” for the MTCCSC club members will be expected to wear the jersey and/or kits “whenever possible” to any event that is being hosted by the club, recreational individual riding or group ride.
Obey all traffic regulations as enforced by all relevant local authorities while on individual or group rides as instructed.
MTCCSC members must be conscious of their role as ambassadors to the non- cycling and recreational cycling communities. Failure to abide by traffic laws, if observed by the public, can have a negative impact or impression left on the club and may result in revocation of future benefits for the entire club.
· Work together as a team to be safe.
· Have a bicycle in good working condition including functioning brakes.
· Wear a helmet whenever riding.
· Ride predictably. Do not swerve or change rate of travel unexpectedly.
· Call out road hazards and other dangers to other cyclists in the group.
· Call out and only pass another cyclist on the left side.
· Do Not cross or overlap wheels with another cyclist in a pace line.
· Do Not ride under the influence of any substance.
· Heed ride leader’s instructions.
· Headphones/music bugs are not allowed
· Be Courteous to fellow cyclists, motorists and pedestrians.
· Recognize that as a participant in club activities that you represent the Club to other cyclists, motorists, government officials and the general public.
· Avoid confrontation with motorists, other cyclists or pedestrians even if they are in the wrong.
This code cannot comprehensively address all possible scenarios. Rather it should function as a standard of behaviors implemented along with common sense and the principle of what a reasonable person would do in a similar situation.
